PostSubject: Great Modern/Not so Modern Composers   Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:24 pm

So I've been slowly collecting music from modern composers lately, and I thought I'd share a list of them for everyone to check out on their own. These are great composers whose music was/is/can be used in cinematic stick films, or any other type of film, take your pick.

Firstly, possibly the most widely known (and my personal favorite) is Hans Zimmer:

Next up, Danny Elfman:

Steve Jablonksy:

Michael Giacchino:

Christopher Lennertz

I only felt like finding Wiki articles so you could see what kind of music they've made. Feel free to search and download samples of their music. If you're making a cinematic or you just like this type of music, I'd recommend each and every one of these guys. Also feel free to post others that you know of for everyone to see.

Steve Jablonsky is my favorite composer nowadays. Hans Zimmer seems to take credit over the little guys when several people work on the soundtrack for a particular movie, still great non the less. For the rest of them, never heard of 'em. o_O I'll definitely look into it through almighty torrents. =D

I think the most widely known is John Williams. That man is a genius.

I loved Elfman and Jablonsky too. I don't know who the other two are though.

Samuel Barber is good, but I pretty much only know him for his Adagio for Strings (Check that out if you never heard about it)

And I know it's cliche, but my favorite classical composer is probably Beethoveen right now. Symphony No.5 and Moonlight Sonata are my favs fro mhim.

Lennertz and Giacchino do the scores for the Medal of Honor games, that's how I got into them. Danny Elfman also has some great cinematic stuff, most recently Wanted.

hans zimmer and john williams are great composers, its just that theyre composing scores for almost every hollywood heavyweight out there that you notice the obvious musical similarities between movies.

clint eastwood isnt recognized as a composer, but his music is stuff is worth listening to.
