PostSubject: Rules and Discussion   Fri Apr 25, 2008 2:55 pm

This is the Graphic Workshop area. You can post exercises for other artists to participate in. Keep in mind, THESE ARE NOT COMPETITIONS. They are simply exercises. Any and All exercises should be posted as follows:

[Art] Human Figure
[Animation] Weight
[PhotoShop] Photo Manip
[3D] Weapon Creation

Feel free to post, but don't post something stupid like:

[fArt] LOLGIANTPENIS

Or similar. But I don't think we have to worry about that. Also, if you're not sure how to setup an exercise, or you're just too damn lazy, post suggestions in this thread. When you start an exercise, YOUR part must be done, as an example for everyone else. This does not have to be your final and only post, but you must have something to start it.

I'm gonna steal my suggestions from the contest section:

Running up and jumping over a wall, and landing on the other side
Jumping across a gap
Kick/Punch combo
Swinging across a gap?
Throwing a whip (harder than you would think)
Walk/Run cycle
Anticipation
Weight
Exaggeration
Timing

Now get goin'.

despite of the capitalised THESE ARE NOT COMPETITIONS text, it's still basically contests with a different name.

Nono, it's not a contest to see who's is better. It's an idea for people to try and show each other the results, so they may compare them to see what they could of done to make it better and see who's was better. Never mind, it's a contest.

No, it's merely an idea for people to make a quick test. To show others and have a mini discussion. This way people improve and have similar tests, don't forget about critiques.

This whole idea is to basically do short tests and get critiqued, like Garrett said. Also, if you need practice in general or just want to animate but don't know what. Here's how a typical exercise would go down:

Poster #1 posts
[Animation] Exaggeration

Make an animation that shows exaggeration, here's mine:

//link to animation//

Poster #2
Great work, I'll try one soon

Poster #3
Here's mine:

//link to animation//

And so on and so on. And again, these aren't contests, only tests.

I also encourage everyone to try things you've never tried. You may end up being good and/or liking it.

Well, I take no credit for it. This is basically copying RHA, but then, what isn't these days?

You never heard of Rock Hard Anims? It was an awesome forum, but it's now gone.
Fusion-Revolution also had something similar to this, Animation Exercises.

I have never heard of it once actually, I probably wasn't interested in flash at the time.

RHA basically followed in SSLa's footsteps. There were all kinds of classic animators that went there.

Hokay, so the thing is a contest with a different name, no polls AND a few different rules.

It's still really similar. Hell, it's practically the same thing.

CONTESTS:
-See who's better using polls
-Practice
-Get critiqued
-Everyone animates the same basic idea
THIS THING:

Ok. Fuck. It's a contest. It's an exercise. Call it what you want. Now discuss something RELEVANT to the topic and all other posts will be promptly deleted.

It was relevent :/
But meh, if you insist on having basically a duplicate of the contest forum (and I'm not trying to start anything here).

The main reasons why this isn't contests at all are:

1. No polls like you said
2. You can add numerous entries
3. No due date
4. No prizes
